huge difference. trying to explain the tremolo effect is tricky. it’s kind of like a whoosh..whoosh….whoosh sound where the sound of the guitar fades in and out at the same pace, and a whammy pedal you can control when you want the effect to happen and you can also raise the pitch of a note, something you can’t do with a tremolo effect

    tremolo effect
    whammy effect

EDIT: No, no difference at all between whammy bar and tremolo, same exact thing :)

I believe that there’s no real difference between what some call whammy and some call tremolo, unless you’re talking about Digitech’s Whammy pedal.

However, there is a thing called Floyd Rose tremolo, which is usually used in metal, so that the guitar doesn’t get out of tune when you use it. Most people I’ve known, tend to say, “Whammy bar,” when they speak of metal guitar.

    Hope this helped!

No. A Whammy bar is pretty much a pet term for a tremelo although the real technical term is Vibrato.

A vintage tremelo is probably just a whammy unit based on an older design.
