Rickenbacker 4003 or Fender P-Bass Vintage 1957?

My original bass guitar was 1957 Fender P-Bass. I was forced to sell it back to the person I bought it from and I ended up buying a low level Ibanez GSR200 (I bought my a while ago, back when they only had one volume and two tone nobs). I’m in the market to buy a new bass guitar, and I’m torn between a Rickenbacker 4003 and a vintage/reissue Fender 1957 P-Bass. Both sound really good and look equally impressive. The kind of music I play is very broad, ranging from sock-hop 60′s music to thrash/death metal. The music I don’t play is Country and Blues. Opinions? Thoughts? Feedback? All comments are welcome.
One more thing. I’m not into slap bass or any other kind of “fancy bass playing.” Nothing against it, just not my style.

I had a Ric years ago……….to me a Ric sounds like a Ric….very unique. I was into a lot of different music, and found my Jazz bass more versatile then the Ric or the P bass. I loved the Ric, but it was really not an ALL ROUND instrument for me. I guess the best thing is to get out to music stores and experiment with different basses/amps/effects to find the happy medium…….OR…..start buying different basses for different sounds. Expensive, but fun!!!!!!!

    Good luck
