Is a vintage 60s Les Paul worth $200?

Jonny Q asked:

I was at a flea market and this guy had some old stuff, had a creme colored strat and a and a vintage 60s era Lea Paul, looked pretty good and he had the original case, he wanted $200 for it. I still have to play it before I consider buying it. I know that vintage guitars (especially strats and Les Pauls) can be pretty valueable. I already have a one year old Squire strat (made by Fender) and I’m happy with it, but I’d like a Les Paul and vintage just makes it cooler (to me). Anyways, assuming it plays well and is in good condition, is it worth the $200? I don’t know the exact model as I’m not an expert on any brand or model, but in general what is a Les Paul from the 60s (playable and in good condition) worth now?

200 bucks sounds like you found a bargain.

You have to get something like that appraised by a music shop.

If you feel its genuinely authentic by checking out pictures and possible serial numbers from that era then id scoop it up in a heartbeat if its the real deal!

If it’s original, and in decent condition, it is probably worth a lot more than $200. Don’t worry if the original finish is crackled, scratched, or even worn off in places, that’s just use and aging. But if it has been refinished, or otherwise altered, that will lower the value.
Definitely play it, and inspect it closely.
