Akshay asked:

I want to buy a new electric guitar. I’m looking out for a Fender Strato-caster and i have some queries.

Firstly, some info: I’ve been playing for about a year and a half and i can’t exactly say that I’m an expert, but I’m not a complete dullard either loll! I plan to take up the guitar as a career and go to Berkley. I play Rock.

Now the queries:

1. What pickup setup should I go in for: 2 Single coil and a humpbucker or all single coils or what?

2. What’s the HSS in the name of a Stratoocaster mean?

3. Is it possible to but a normal strat and then later on get it fitted with a floyd rose locking tremolo system?

4. Whats the difference between a normal and a vintage guitar? Which one is more advisable?

5. Where can I buy a Strat in Bombay, India? How much will one cost approximately?

6. What exactly is a Hot Rod?

7. Do you think that there si another guitar that would be better and most cost effective that the strat?

  1. minimooglove Do ya feel lucky? Says:

    1. 2 singles and a bucker

    2. Humbucker Single Single, in other words the pickup configuration

    3. Yes, but it takes some serious routing.

    4. A vintage guitar is that over a certain age, around 25 years or older. Many companies re-issue guitars made in a similar fashion as the older ones. I personally prefer the vintage style.

    5. No idea, I live in New Zealand

    6. Generally it is a normal guitar that has had some of it’s parts like it’s pickups and controls upgraded.

    7. The Ibanez RG.
