Which Squier bass should I purchase?

ANA asked:
I’m having trouble with choosing a Squier by Fender Vintage Modified ’70s Jazz Bass or a Squier by Fender Classic Vibe ’60s Jazz Bass Guitar. It would be helpful if you can tell me why, thanks!

They’re both really nice basses for the price.
The Vintage Modified series is widely held as Squier’s best line of instruments, especially the VM70′s Jazz. The body of this bass is all Maple, so you can expect it to have a brighter sound, with more crystal-clear highs and treble presence. Comes with Duncan pickups, which are fairly decent.
The Classic Vibe 60′s Bass is made of Basswood, which has a fairly neutral tone (some would call it bland, others would call it consistent; it depends on the quality of the Basswood). Comes with Custom Single Coil pickups, with the same AlNiCo magnets the Duncan pickups have.
They’re both really similar; you wouldn’t really be going wrong with either of them. Based on the VM70′s good reputation, I’d suggest that one, but you may disagree. Try playing both of them; find which one you think sounds the best, feels the best, and suits your needs the best – then you should be set =)
Hope you find what you’re looking for!
Cheers ^_^
