How much money can I get for vintage Gibson humbuckers?

alex m asked:

I just traded my guitar teacher a Burstbucker for a pair of old Gibson humbuckers that he thought were ‘73 stock but actually turned out to be an original ‘58 PAF humbucker and a 1959-1962 PAT NO. 2,737, 842. I’m not sure they’re actually the models I think they are but all evidence points to it. The one that I’m sure is a ‘58 PAF has the original “Patent Applied For” sticker on the back. The sticker is very old and brittle and could flake off at any moment. The other humucker has the patent number stamped in the back and wikipedia states that it is a pre-1962 humbucker. I’m not sure if I should sell or keep them. Does anybody know how much I could get for them?

why do so many people think Gibson and Fender are the best guitar brands?

Love Lies Bleeding asked:

i think they are ok guitars, but they arent the best on my opinion by a long shot. here’s why.

Gibson – they are way overpriced. They are good guitars, but they arent worth 2500 bucks. I would think about buying a les paul if it was like 600, but its not even worth that much. they are also 5 piuunds or so more than any other guitar i have used. and, on top of all that, everyone i know wants one like its their life dream!

Fender – I am not as critical about these guys. they are cheaper priced, but their quality has gone down in the passing years. now a good majority of rtheir guitars are made in mexico and to my stanards many of them barely pass as a starter guitar. i do like the telecaster series-the ones with the humbucker pickups, not singles. i do not like that everyone thinks this is the best brand out there.

now i have to admit the vintage guitars from eachof these brands are probably amazing. i have not tried a vintage but i hear a lot of good stuff about them.

anyway what would I reccomend? i have never had a bad experience with an ibenez guitars (aside from the starter guitar, or the gio series (same thing)) they are made solid and as long as you dont throw it against a wall or anything the paint job wont chip. i reccomend this guitar, and i can honestly say that is the best guitar i have ever played.

the only problem with that guitar is the middle pickup gets in the way, but thats the way i play.

this link works, not the other one.

I am almost positive it is this guitar
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-American-Vintage–62-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar-510049-i1146252.gc

I saw it at guitar center, and it was $440 – only because it was the last one they had and they had not sold it yet. it was a 60s stratocaster. how good is this guitar? thanks
also the price is sooooooo low. IT WAS NOT USED EITHER.

why?
THIS WAS THE GUITAR!!!!

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Classic-Player-60s-Stratocaster?sku=512767

so that’s $360 off, is it good?
is was the sunburst red/brown color NOT the light blue

Guitar help, vintage guitar, whats it worth?

ryan asked:

It is a may ? 1967 Fender Musicmaster as labled on the neck plate (cant remember the day off the top of my head). The body has been repainted many times and gutted for a humbucker but all before it was mine. I re-finished it again, (not the best job but its alright), put a dimarzio vintage 57 in the neck and a dimarzio fast track 2 in the bridge, and a new tortoise shell pickguard and wiring system. So that being said about the body the neck has not been altered at all, the tuning heads have been painted but nothing else. So to conclude the bridge, control plate, neck plate and neck are the only untouched things. What is this worth!?

Taylor M asked:

My mother bought a solid dark red electric guitar back in 1981. The person she bought it from had completely refurbished it so there was no name or trade mark on it. He told her than that it was 20 yrs old. So the guitar today would be roughly 47 yrs old. I have been told it looks like an old fender. How would i find out?

Gretsch Guitars – new vs. vintage – what would you buy?

Cornporto asked:

I generally prefer the vintage stuff and have a collection of vintage gibson and Fenders, but I need a decent hollowbody. With a Gretsch, I’d need to get a pre 1970s model (before the company went in the crapper for a decade or two) or a late 90s and beyond Japanese made model. Obviously I dig the vintage models, but worry about the playability of the older Gretsch. The new stuff – the Setzer, Horton Heat, and Nashville models are wicked cool, but made in Japan and may not have the resale value or mojo of a vintage model but will likely be more refined and easier to play. Any insight, thoughts or comments?
