As a musician I would have to tell you that the name of the guitar does not matter… Go down to your local music shop and try them out. All reputable music shops will let you sit there and try. Your guitar is part of you so you should pick up the one you like best. As for the tone you can pick up different guitar emulators/distortion petals/compressors/wah’s exc…. Oh and the head you use is very important as are the Cabs

Color isn’t going to matter one whit for the sound.
Choice of amp and rack gear will make junk sound great too, but of these guitar choices,
1. 2001 Gibson
2. Gibson LP black
3. Gibson LP vintage.
4. Epi.
This depends entirely upon the set up. I had a great Rickenbacker, but the intonation was off just enough to give me a royal pain.
I would go for a Rick. You seem to be a Gibson fiend.
Gibsons are great also, but for sure inspect the action, and the bridge. But, being brand new or almost, shouldn’t be bad, unless some dolt beat on it.

If you want to play like Slash, go down to your local Gibson dealer with your amp and pedal board and play every Gibson LP in the store only then will you know. Also if price is a concern (though it doesn’t seem to be with you) you could consider a second tier brand like Dean (their EVO model delivers strinkingly similar meaty LP tones)..best of luck

First of all Slash DOES NOT ALWAYS PLAY A GIBSON! Shock? I know that it says Gibson on the headstock but it’s far from it. A California luthier named “MAX” Ghostbuilds most of Slash’s guitars that say Gibson on them. I will not say that some of the guitars he played in the earlier years were not the “real deal” but the ones he plays today most likely are not. But if you want my list here you go:
1)Gibson les paul custom black (it’s a custom so it probally is going to have a better sound because the time was taken to match the woods for better sound rensonance.
2)2001 Gibson Les Paul Studio! Wine Red/Gold Hrdwr! w/hsc (just because it will look more like a Les Paul Custom and the hardware is probally a bit better)
3)GIBSON LES PAUL VINTAGE MAHOGANY(studio)(Still made in America and not a bad choice)
4)EPIPHONE BY GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD ELECTRIC GUITAR(Last but still a decent instrument only because it’s an import which means that a machine probaly built 90% of it and most of the compents are not as good as “Made in the U.S.A.”
Tough call between #2&3!
I do not mean to mislead you(I own 3 post ’95 model Gibson guitars,a V,a “Paul”, and an SG) but I also purchaced them before I to was deprogramed. Read up on the web-site I linked you to below. This could not be printed if not true in fear of being sued. He is a wise man and I gurantee in the future my sales will be with him! For what you will pay for a custom “Paul” you can get a handmade “knock-off” for the same price or less made with 100% American blood and tears. Good luck with your decision and I hope that I have helped you.
