If they’re both new go with Gibson. Gibson is and traditionally has been one of the best companies out there. Epiphone’s are nice but they are usually knock offs of better guitars (i.e. Gibson). That said they are very very high quality knock offs.
I have that same Epiphone and it has served me well. I love it, but if I had the chance then, I would’ve gone with Gibson.
Check out the Gibson Blues Hawk. It’s a beauty, relatively inexpensive (round 700), and perfect for a unique classic rock sound if you couple it with a Marshall amp.
