Bernardo Castanon asked: I have been playing for around ten years, bass and guitar. I’m impressed though, some vintage models of guitars and basses are missing paint in some spots how does that get to happen?
Examples: “Jaco” Pastorius’ bass, Stings’ bass, John Frusciantes’ guitar… etc

kalebselby asked: I recently bought a vintage 335 copy bass guitar. it has a PHAT pickup right below the neck (it’s about the size of a boss pedal) and besides the 335 style body is one of the reasons I bought the guitar.
but after trying to play it during a gig, i noticed that only the A string and D string pick up at normal volume, the E and G strings are really quiet. I had to crank up the volume AND the the bass to get any reasonable level out of the E string and it just sounded horrible.
I’ve already spent a reasonable amount getting this old girl gig-ready (luthier, new flatwounds, mean vintage strap etc) so I dont want to spend too much more at my rip-off luthiers just for them to charge me and not actually do anything. I also really don’t want to have to replace the pickup (or at least not the outer shell, I could probably swap over some electrics underneath as long as it still provides a phat sound… i dunno much about this kinda stuff) so what do you thin kthe problem could be?
the strings are flat and the pickup is flat

The Beak of A Tumor asked: I’m looking for a vintage (or something made at least before 1995) Fender Precision Bass. I’ve looked on eBay, but that stuff is way too expensive and there’s no way to know if it’s quality or original. Does anybody know of a great vintage shop online or around the Northwest area where I can find a used vintage bass for around $1000 or less?
10 points if you help me out! I’d really like to find a great vintage shop.
Also, please don’t say Guitar Center, eBay, craigslist or any of that stuff.
Thanks!

St. Judas asked: My original bass guitar was 1957 Fender P-Bass. I was forced to sell it back to the person I bought it from and I ended up buying a low level Ibanez GSR200 (I bought my a while ago, back when they only had one volume and two tone nobs). I’m in the market to buy a new bass guitar, and I’m torn between a Rickenbacker 4003 and a vintage/reissue Fender 1957 P-Bass. Both sound really good and look equally impressive. The kind of music I play is very broad, ranging from sock-hop 60′s music to thrash/death metal. The music I don’t play is Country and Blues. Opinions? Thoughts? Feedback? All comments are welcome.
One more thing. I’m not into slap bass or any other kind of “fancy bass playing.” Nothing against it, just not my style.
