Wendell C asked: I love Fender Jazzmaster guitars, but I only own newer reissues. There is a store near me that has several vintage jazzmasters from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. What should I look for when testing/examining the guitars to ensure that I don’t get ripped off/buy a bad guitar.

Eric S asked: DO NOT TELL ME EBAY…I know that one. I want to buy a vintage guitar strap, such as the ones at http://luckyguitarstraps.com/ (if you’ve never heard of them…you’re welcome.)
Does anyone have another cool website like this one that sells vintage straps?

DT asked: Any musicians/guitar players who can give me some help deciding on what guitar to buy my hubby for Xmas??? He is in a band and I would like to add to his guitar collection. I am not looking to spend more that $1300/1400 max! I was looking at the Gibson Les Paul Vintage Electric which is on sale for $800 or a John Mayer Signature Stratocaster. Any help, advice, and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Akshay asked:
I want to buy a new electric guitar. I’m looking out for a Fender Strato-caster and i have some queries.
Firstly, some info: I’ve been playing for about a year and a half and i can’t exactly say that I’m an expert, but I’m not a complete dullard either loll! I plan to take up the guitar as a career and go to Berkley. I play Rock.
Now the queries:
1. What pickup setup should I go in for: 2 Single coil and a humpbucker or all single coils or what?
2. What’s the HSS in the name of a Stratoocaster mean?
3. Is it possible to but a normal strat and then later on get it fitted with a floyd rose locking tremolo system?
4. Whats the difference between a normal and a vintage guitar? Which one is more advisable?
5. Where can I buy a Strat in Bombay, India? How much will one cost approximately?
6. What exactly is a Hot Rod?
7. Do you think that there si another guitar that would be better and most cost effective that the strat?

St. Judas asked: My original bass guitar was 1957 Fender P-Bass. I was forced to sell it back to the person I bought it from and I ended up buying a low level Ibanez GSR200 (I bought my a while ago, back when they only had one volume and two tone nobs). I’m in the market to buy a new bass guitar, and I’m torn between a Rickenbacker 4003 and a vintage/reissue Fender 1957 P-Bass. Both sound really good and look equally impressive. The kind of music I play is very broad, ranging from sock-hop 60′s music to thrash/death metal. The music I don’t play is Country and Blues. Opinions? Thoughts? Feedback? All comments are welcome.
One more thing. I’m not into slap bass or any other kind of “fancy bass playing.” Nothing against it, just not my style.
