Ackerdacker asked: I’m looking at a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany $899.00 or a Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX $849.00. I like to play some Black Sabbath, Metallica as well as some mellow tunes. I think the Gibson would be the better investment but will it give the crunch and distortion of the EX?
Thanks
Ackerdacker
Thanks but the Gibson is the bottom of the line model. Are the pickups the same quality? They aren’t EMG’s they have Alnico V burstbucker pro humbuckers. Will I still get some metal sound out of them? Why is this Les Paul $899 ans the standard is $2399.00?
Oh and by the way, some people said they would sell their Gibson to buy a Prophecy EX.
Dazed and Confused!!!!

emerica90 asked: okay, i’ve been looking around for information on the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy (see link below) and according to the reviews, it sounds like its better than a Gibson Les Paul as people say. but im not sure if its really THAT good. i’ve never played it before or seen one in person but my friend owns a Gibson Les Paul Studio that plays really well. people say that it plays even better but i dont know if thats really true. what do you guys think? anyone own this epiphone?

emerica90 asked: here is my problem.. im starting to get really good at guitar. im into all the techniques and have mastered them.. that includes finger tapping very quickly, hammering, pulling off, etc. the only problem is that my amp and guitar **** and i have no money. for example..when i finger tap on my guitar it is not clear at all and it sounds really bad compared to when i do it on my friends ibanez. im trying to get a heavy sound but all i have on my amp is a “boost” effect which is not really much of a distortion. im guessing its my guitar though also.. pickups are pretty bad and everything. i have an epiphone les paul special II and a Studio 10S epiphone practice amp….should i just get a new guitar/amp or a distortion pedal or what? any suggestions on an amp. i might get a Gibson Vintage guitar or maybe an Epiphone Prophecy with EMG pickups =] what do you guys think?
