Han asked:

I saw a vintage guitar the other day. I can’t seem to find it, but I remember the first letters of the brand was:

Wur…..

He said something about them specializing in organs and stuff. It was an acoustic guitar, had an arch top on the back, (Simular to the Gibson Les Paul Arch tops, but this one was on the back instead of the front.)

Double skunk-stripes on the middle of the neck all the way past the headstock.

Set neck. Natural Color.

Thanks.

decision between two guitars to get?

George T asked:

just a question about which of these two guitars to get

1. Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar
or
2. Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany Electric Guitar

here’s a link that compares both http://www.musiciansfriend.com/compare?base_pid=517030&base_pid=517536

so i know that the studio is probably better because it’s more expensive (though i could be wrong), but is it a better buy for the money?

a friend’s brother said i should i should get the mahogany because it’s a better value, and i trust him, but i just wantd a few more opinions to see what other people would choose

kairvette asked:

I am planning on buying whole-sale Gibson strings for my new LP std 07 cause they are quite bit cheaper. But I don’t know which one I should get. The choices being 1. Humbucker 2. brite wires 3.vintage. I am not quite sure which one comes with my LP. But I did notice the original strings are actually different on LP standards at GC. So what are the essential difference between them?? Which is the best? Thanks!
I am only interested in Gibson strings. By LP Std, I mean a gibson Les paul standard.

fo shizzle asked:

I am just a beginner, so it has to be easy to play. but here’s the thing, i dont like the look of the newer guitars, like the fender starcaster which is what i have now, I love the vintage look. But I cannot afford any of them, there like $1,000+ even on eBay (such as this one that I really like http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-1973-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-CUSTOM-ELECTRIC-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ290246833640QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290246833640)
Does anyone know where I can get a guitar like this but for under $300? I know I probably wont be able to get an original for this cheap, but maybe a remake that has that vintage look and good sound quality?

Thank you :D

Schecter Tempest Custom issues?

Mooplet asked:

I currently own a Schecter Tempest Custom.
It’s about a year old and I’ve loved it ever since.
But it has a tendency to come out of tune quite easily.
When I play shows with my band, I pretty much have to tune after every song.
It’s mainly the G string, which I know is common, but usually not this bad.
After one song, it may be a half or an entire step down from what it should be.
And the other strings don’t stay tuned very well either.

And here’s the question.
I was wondering whether I should get some mechanical locking heads or just get a new guitar.
I don’t really know much about the locking heads or how to set them up, or if it would even be of much help to me.

I was thinking about getting a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany Electric Guitar.
I mainly play death/metal, kinda like Carnifex, Devil Wears Prada, or Bring Me The Horizon.
I’ve never used a Gibson but I’ve always wanted to try them cause I love the sound, but at the same time I don’t know if it would be right for me.

So what should I do?
Thanks.

Age of a Gibson Les Paul without the serial number?

jargent100 asked:

I’ve had my Gibson Les Paul Deluxe for about 10 years. I received it as a gift from a close family friend, and the implication was that she received it in leiu of payment from someone else.

The thing is most definitely “hot”; the serial number has been scratched off deeply from behind the headstock. (It’s also been hot for at least 15 years, so I’m less concerned about that.)

What I’m trying to figure out is how to properly determine the age of the guitar. I’m reasonably sure it’s late 1970s, but I don’t think I can get any more detail without a serial number.

Is there any other way to get more info on the guitar’s origin? Do LPs have a serial number anyplace other than the back of the headstock? Can I determine the age based on the setup / style of the pick-ups?

I’ve been playing guitar for a while, but am not part of the “vintage” scene, and know fairly little about nice guitars. (I’m cheap.) Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Here’s a picture of something a lot LIKE the guitar:

http://gitar.hatarozo.hu/mods/block_art/images/4501915951_les-paul-classic_410_01.jpg

Though this is a LP Classic.

(Now that I don’t have the guitar in front of me, I’m questioning whether it’s a Deluxe or Classic, but pretty sure it’s a Deluxe… I’ll verify later.)
I checked. It is an American Made Les Paul Deluxe. I photographed and blew up the scratched out serial, but can’t make out any real detail…
BUT, no mini humbuckers. I think it had some customizations done.
